I’ve worked in taxation since 2003. Over the years, that work has included preparing tax returns and representing taxpayers in IRS examinations, collection matters, Appeals, and other tax disputes.
At some point, I realized I was explaining many of the same IRS processes over and over again. So I started writing them down.
These two books grew out of that work.
They aren’t a substitute for professional advice about your particular tax situation. But if you want a better understanding of how the IRS examination and collection process works, they’re a good place to start.
Both are available as complimentary PDF copies from BestTaxPro™.
My first book grew out of experience I had already accumulated representing taxpayers before the IRS. By the time I wrote it, I had spent years working with IRS examinations, collection cases, and Appeals hearings.
The book covers topics including:
The appendices also include examples of IRS audit, collection, and Appeals notices.
The goal was never to turn readers into tax representatives. It was to help taxpayers understand the process they were dealing with and make better-informed decisions about what to do next.
My second book takes a broader look at what happens when a tax issue grows beyond a single notice.
It covers subjects including:
This book is less about one particular stage of an IRS case and more about understanding the different pieces that can make up an IRS problem.
The books reflect what I knew and the experience I had when they were written. My professional development continued after that.
Today, I’m an Enrolled Agent, a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER® professional, a Fellow of the National Tax Practice Institute, and a U.S. Tax Court Practitioner. I’m admitted to practice before the United States Tax Court as a non-attorney practitioner.
That means the work I began writing about years ago has continued to develop through additional representation experience, education, and professional credentials.
The books are part of that history. They aren’t the end of it.
