Tax Preparation Pricing

You Shouldn’t Have To Book A Call Just To Find Out What A Tax Return Costs.

Pricing in this industry is usually hidden. Ours isn’t. Below is exactly what tax preparation starts at with BestTaxPro™: current-year returns, back-year returns, and the schedules that go with them. Prices are starting points, and if your return is more involved, we’ll tell you before we start, not after.

Our clients hire us because their return gets done right, their questions get straight answers, and their tax situation gets handled by a credentialed professional.

Why clients choose BestTaxPro™

The Difference Is Who’s Behind Your Return.

Credentialed Preparation

Your return is prepared by an Enrolled Agent who is also admitted to practice before the U.S. Tax Court. The person who prepares it is the person who signs it.

Straight Answers

We review your return with you before anything is signed or filed. If something looks off, we say so.

Secure Client Portal

All documents move through our secure TaxDome portal. Nothing sensitive travels by email attachment.

Year-Round

Tax problems don’t keep tax-season hours. Neither do we.

Back-Year Specialists

Behind on filings? Multi-year cleanup is one of the most common projects we handle. We know exactly how to get you current.

If Your Return Uncovers a Bigger Problem

A balance you cannot pay. Old notices. Collection activity. If your return surfaces something like that, you are already working with the person who handles those cases. Nothing gets handed off.

Behind on your taxes?

Back-Year Return Pricing

Multiple unfiled years scare a lot of preparers off. We handle them every week. Each year is priced on its own, oldest year first, and here’s what that looks like:

Tax YearForm 1040Schedule C1120-S1065
2020$345$155$810$730
2021$370$170$850$770
2022$395$185$890$810
2023$450$190$930$850
2024$475$200$1,000$900
2025$490$205$1,030$930

Missing records?

If you’re self-employed and don’t have books for the back years, we reconstruct income and expenses from bank records and IRS transcripts. Forensic reconstruction runs $1,000 per year in addition to the return preparation fee.

Why publish this?

Because a big reason people stay behind on their taxes is fear of the unknown, including the cost. Now you know. Getting current on filings is also the step that unlocks nearly every IRS resolution option, so if there’s a balance behind those unfiled years, this is where fixing it starts.

Important Pricing Information

  • All fees shown are starting rates. Complex returns cost more; you’ll know the number before we begin work.
  • Schedule C and Schedule E returns require a profit-and-loss statement. If we have to build one from your records, that’s the forensic reconstruction work priced above.
  • Returns with a high volume of brokerage transactions may carry additional charges.
  • Tax preparation fees don’t include tax planning or IRS resolution work. Those are separate engagements with their own pricing, and yes, we publish that too.

Tax preparation pricing FAQs

Questions, Answered Straight.

Why is pricing listed as “starting at” instead of a fixed number?

Because returns vary. Two people with the same forms can have very different amounts of work behind them. The starting rate covers a standard version of that return; if yours is more involved, we quote the difference before we start.

Can I get a firm quote before booking?

Yes. Tell us your situation, filing status, income types, which years, and we’ll give you a number.

I’m several years behind. Where do I even start?

With a conversation. We handle multi-year cleanup constantly. We’ll pull your IRS transcripts, figure out exactly which years need filing, and work oldest to newest. The back-year table above shows what each year costs.

Do you do IRS resolution work too: payment plans, offers in compromise, penalty abatement?

Yes, that’s the core of our practice. Tax preparation and IRS resolution are separate engagements. See our Tax Resolution Pricing.

I don’t live in Minnesota. Can you still prepare my return?

Yes. As an Enrolled Agent, Josh is federally licensed and can represent taxpayers before the IRS in all 50 states. We work virtually with clients across the country.

What documents should I have ready?

Once you schedule, you’ll get a checklist tailored to your situation through the portal. For a first conversation, any recent IRS or state letters are the most useful thing to have handy.

Do prices include tax planning?

No. Quick questions during your appointment are fine. In-depth planning is a separate engagement.
